A Talking Class Hero

Bill Greenwell

Published 18 December 2000

Tony Blair and Robin Cook battled it out at the Nice summit. It's the 20th anniversary of the death of John Lennon (to whom, apologies)

As soon as you budge, they make you feel small

By giving no credit instead of it all

Till the red line's so thin that it's no line at all

A federal Europe means nothing to me

They twit you at home and they hiss you in Nice

They rubbish endeavour and give you no peace

Till you're so fucking tired your tongue starts to crease

A federal Europe means nothing to me

When you're filled to the brim with their fancy cuisine

They say to your face they don't know what you mean

So you threaten a veto (though Robin's not keen)

A federal Europe means nothing to me

There's room for manoeuvre they're telling you still

They say that they'll sugar your day-after pill

But I know the old pre-electoral drill

So a federal Europe means nothing to me
