Elsie Hart came into the world in a gardener's cottage at Wangford just three days before Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was born in London.

A German bus driver who claimed workmates teased him by goose-stepping in the style of Basil Fawlty and giving Nazi salutes has lost his claim for racial discrimination. Mr Burger resigned from his job, claiming that two years of abuse had affected his health. The 49-year-old had been nicknamed "Herman the German" when at work.
The former driver, who fled the former communist East Germany, said he had strong anti-fascist views. He said: "I suppose that has made me hypersensitive to what some would call friendly banter." - Western Daily Press (Francis Harvey)
