On Thursday last my eldest great-granddaughter was enjoying a lie-in prior to taking an examination later in the morning. Her sleep was broken by the postman ringing the doorbell and asking for 38p for an envelope without a stamp. She gave him the 38p and opened the envelope, which contained a card from the local Tory party wishing her a happy 18th birthday. - Independent (Christian Wolmar)
