The late Alan Clark MP endorsed the efforts to create an international nude athletic event at Oban on the west coast of Argyll. He reckoned the annual naked Olympiad would raise the temperature of Scotland's reputation around the world by several degrees centigrade. He thought it amusing that Oban's civic officials had entirely omitted to mention the blight of Argyll's summers, "the midge", Scotland's native mosquito which would feast on such a festival of nakedness.

Lynx have been successfully reintroduced into Switzerland, France, Germany and parts of the USA. Fenning Welstead, a supporter of returning Scotland's lost species, added: "To my mind it is the most beautiful of the mammals we have lost. We need to bring back at least one for every hunt that is lost. The lynx is the only natural predator to the fox. If the Scottish Parliament bans fox-hunting, nature will have to come back into play."
