A salmon beat on the upper reaches of the River Tay has recently been put up for sale. The price-tag is for offers in excess of £300,000. Although in 1993 this one-and-a-quarter-mile stretch of fishing yielded 133 salmon, the average annual catch is only 67 fish. This prices the property for sale at £4,477 per salmon caught.

In a recent Scottish radio programme, the Scottish National Party MSP, Lloyd Quinan, announced that he was planning to produce a show on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2000. This is not so surprising as it might seem. Although most recently the Scottish Television weatherman, Lloyd Quinan is also a member of Equity and an experienced professional actor. However, his revelation that his show would be cast entirely from the membership of the Scottish Parliament did not endear him to those MSPs who are trying to make Holyrood seem less like a farce. Undaunted, Quinan displayed a creditable and genuine non-partisan approach when Britain's only Green parliamentarian, Robin Harper, appeared on the same radio programme - with his guitar. It turns out that, like Quinan, his fellow MSP had also been a professional entertainer. A folk-singer, he sang a love song to his wife by way of an audition. Quinan immediately engaged Harper and said that he was on the lookout for more talent.
