Leonard Steinberg, chairman of Stanley Leisure, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Salford in recognition of his contribution in developing Salford's reputation as a major centre for the training of graduates for the gambling industry.
According to the university, Steinberg's efforts have suddenly "made gambling popular and respectable". - Guardian (Sigrid Rabiger)

Nineteen-year-old Sarah Robb, of Shepperton High Street, was disgusted when she found topless sunbathers by the riverside.
"I was walking my dog when I saw them," said Sarah. "It's not right in our local park, as there are mums there with children."
Sarah was so steamed up that she phoned Spelthorne Council to complain.
"I'm not a prude," she said. "In fact, I have one pierced eyebrow, but I found the behaviour absolutely unacceptable." - Staines & Egham Herald & News (David Browning)
