Victoria Wood, a 55-year-old craftswoman, toymaker and artist, of The Chapel, Harbertonford, was accused of attempting to murder her husband at her home.

Mr Wood, who had moved to a residential home near Totnes, suffered from a degenerative disease and his condition began to get worse. On 18 October his wife collected him from the home and took him back to Harbertonford. She played his favourite music, gave him some tablets and then tried to smother him with a pillow.

But Mr Wood pushed her off and fell on the floor. She was concerned that he might be injured and summoned an ambulance. - South Devon & Plymouth Times (Annabel Caddle)
