Thieves are stealing car keys from hallway tables by hooking them out through letter boxes with fishing rods. The RAC has warned drivers in south-east London that a gang has stolen several cars in this way.

A spokesman said that: "Motorists should be on the lookout for people carrying fishing rods in a built-up area where there's no sign of water." - Observer (A Barber)

Pay-offs of up to £65,000 will go to workers at a razor blade factory, closing with the loss of 350 jobs.

Union officials at the Wilkinson Sword plant in Cramlington negotiated payments 65 per cent higher than those first on offer.

Louise Bassett of Wilkinson Sword said that Warner Lambert, the parent company, agreed to enhanced payments because of sadness at having to close and the economic situation. - Newcastle Evening Chronicle (David Browning)
