Dickensian thinking

Published 11 December 1998

While vacuuming the threadbare carpet in my dilapidated end terrace, it suddenly occurred to me how preposterous your editorial (4 December) had been, in saying that children brought up in deprived areas are thick because they're not fed properly. You've read too much Dickens. Try taking your head out of reports and living here.
