Strange kind of Labour leader

Published 27 November 1998

Although Steve Richards' analysis is perceptive ("Blair doesn't have enough control", 20 November), he misses the point.

Isn't the issue that Tony Blair has cosied up to the Liberal Democrats while simultaneously seeking to exclude members of his own party (Messrs Livingstone, Morgan and Canavan) from the political process? He has defined himself as a very un-Labour leader, one who seems to prefer members of an opposition party to those in his own ranks as political bedfellows. Now the Labour Party must choose whether to follow him.
